Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster pilot Antron Brown has finally checked Heartland Park Topeka off of his track list. Brown got his second win of the season, as he won the Top Fuel race at the 29th annual Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals presented by Minties by Heartland Park Topeka.
Brown — the three-time and back-to-back reigning Top Fuel champion — defeated Steve Torrence in the final round. Brown got his 63rd career win with a 3.709 at 332.75 mph pass, which was better than Torrence’s 3.836 at 256.70 mph.
“The competition has been so tight that you have to run these cars on edge every lap,” Brown said. “We kept our head down and stayed poised. We went out there and raced our hearts out. It feels real good to win at Topeka. I’ve been wanting to win here for so long.”
Brown is now 22-1 against Torrence in prior events. He’s also 5-0 against the Texan in the final round.
The champion had the advantage off of the starting line before Torrence took the lead at the 1/8th mile. Then, he had problems as smoke came from the engine and the race was over from there.
This is Brown’s 47th career Top Fuel Wally in his career.
