Erica-Enders-Stevens was not the only woman to win in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series on Sunday. Brittany Force, the pilot of the Monster Energy Top Fuel Dragster, won the fifth annual NHRA New England Nationals at New England Dragway in her category.
This is Force’s fourth career win — but the first of the 2017 season. She went 3.716 at 328.62 mph in her dragster to defeat Antron Brown, who was looking to win back-to-back races.
Brown went 3.728 at 327.98 in his Matco Tools Top Fuel Dragster for the runner-up finish.
“We figured things out in Topeka and I felt like we had our team back so we knew our first win would be right around the corner,” Force said. “The key to it all is our team sticking together and not giving up — and it definitely paid dividends today.”
Prior to this final round, Brown — the three-time Top Fuel world champion — was 8-3 against Force. He also held a 4-1 final round record against her.
Brown at the early advantage before losing it as the two crossed the Christmas tree. She never trailed from there — and won by 0.0071 seconds or approx. 3 feet.
“The Indy test turned everything around,” Force said. “Really after Atlanta, we already knew what the problem was and we were going to prove it on the race track in testing. We knew we were right, and that we had a problem with the clutch and we were good after that.”
