Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster pilot Doug Kalitta is the provisional No. 1 qualifier at the 17th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, TN. Kalitta went 3.781 at 326.71 mph.

Kalitta picked up the provisional top spot in his second qualifying pass. According to the NHRA, this is the only track that Kalitta does not have a No. 1 qualifier at in his long career.

“That was definitely the run to put one down,” he said. “It was a good solid run and felt good the whole way. I was really hoping that would contend for low qualifier. This is the one place I haven’t had the low qualifier, so I hope to check that off the list.”

Steve Torrence — who won last weekend at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ — is presently the second qualified driver. He went 3.802 at 317.42 mph in his Capco Contractors Top Fuel dragster.

Leah Pritchett — who is back with the Papa John’s Pizza dragster this weekend following the past two weekends with the Dodge Demon paint scheme — is the third qualified driver. She went 3.817 at 309.34 mph in her Don Schumacher Racing dragster.

Clay Millican is in the fourth spot with a 3.833 at 315.66 mph in his Great Clips and Parts Plus Top Fuel Dragster. Eight-time World Champion Tony Schumacher is fifth with a 3.869 at 310.98 mph pass in his U.S. Army Racing dragster.
