Jeg Coughlin Jr. is the Pro Stock provisional No. 1 qualifier at the 17th annual NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, TN on Friday night. Coughlin Jr. went 6.694 at 204.85 mph in his JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro.
Coughlin Jr. secured the provisional top spot on his second pass.
“We had a great start here in the mountain [Friday],” Coughlin Jr. said. “It feels great to get a jump on the weekend. Our team is strong, prepared and communicate really well.”
Coughlin Jr. is looking to capture his 21st career No. 1 qualifier. He’s already been the No. 1 qualifier twice this season — in Houston and Charlotte — while qualifying in the top half of the field in the first 10 races of the season.
“We’re off to a great start here on the mountain,” Coughlin Jr. said. “Our Elite team has been working so hard on both engine and track performance. They’ve been trying hard to match the horsepower, chassis and clutch and we’ve been kind of R&D’ing a new set up in both my car and Erica (Enders, teammate) the past few weekends.
“It finally looks like both cars are happy. I’m No. 1 and she’s No. 3 so it looks like all of the hard work is paying off.”
KB Racing’s Bo Butner is the No. 2 qualifier with a 6.697 at 206.51 mph. Coughlin Jr.’s Elite Performance teammate Erica Enders-Stevens is the No. 3 qualifier with a 6.704 at 205.82 mph.
Greg Anderson — who won the historic NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park last weekend in Englishtown, NJ — is the No. 4 qualifier. He went 6.711 at 205.29 mph in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevy Camaro.
Jason Line is the third KB Racing Chevy Camaro in the Top 5, as Line is the No. 5 qualifier with a 6.721 at 205.22 mph pass.
