Lakers acquire Brook Lopez

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Brook Lopez in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers also received the draft rights to first-round draft pick Kyle Kuzma. 

In exchange, the Brooklyn Nets acquired D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. Russell was the former No. 2 overall selection in the 2015 NBA Draft.

The 20-year-old Russell played two seasons with the Lakers before the trade. With the Lakers, he appeared in 151 games during his tenure. He made 116 starts.

He made a career-high 60 starts during the 2016-17 season. This past season, he averaged 15.6 points per game. He also averaged 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in 28.7 minutes. 

Mozgov was traded by the Lakers one season after signing a massive deal with the team. In his lone season with the team, he made 54 appearances, including 52 starts. 

He averaged 7.4 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. 

The Russian has bounced around in the NBA since his arrival during the 2010-11 season. The Nets will be his fifth organization. 

Lopez has spent nine seasons with the Nets franchise before the trade. He was drafted by the Nets with the 10th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

He played in 562 games with the Nets. He made 527 starts. He averaged 18.6 points per game. He also averaged 7.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game in 32.2 minutes.
