The Chicago Bulls have pulled off a blockbuster deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jimmy Butler is moving on after long, drawn-out trade talks.

Butler reunites with Tom Thibodeau, who was formerly with the Bulls, as their head coach. Now, Thibodeau helps run the Timberwolves’ front office. The 16th overall pick is also going to the Wolves.

Earlier this week, the Bulls approached the Philadelphia 76ers about a trade involving the No. 3 pick. However, nothing happened – and that pick was actually moved to the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 overall pick on Monday afternoon.

The Cleveland Cavaliers also reportedly had an interest in acquiring Butler. Then, that deal fell apart when Cavaliers players told him not to go to the team following David Griffin’s firing.

Butler is a 27-year-old, who is a three-time All-Star. He’s under contract for two more seasons and has a player option for the 2019-20 season.

Butler appeared in 76 games this past season. He made 75 starts.

He averaged a career-high 23.9 points per game. He also averaged 6.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.

LaVine appeared in 47 games. He started all 47 games.

He also had a career season last season, as he averaged 18.9 points per game. He also had 3.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game.
