Capitals re-sign Oshie

The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward T.J. Oshie before he would have become a free agent. He has signed an eight-year extension worth $46 million.

The deal was announced on Friday before Oshie would have reached free agency in July.

“T.J. is an invaluable member of our team and we felt it was imperative for us to re-sign him in a competitive free agent market,” Capitals Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian MacLellan said. “T.J. is a highly competitive player with a tremendous skill set; he epitomizes the kind of player our team must have in order for us to continue to put ourselves in a position to compete in this league.”

He came to the Capitals in a trade with the St. Louis Blues. He has played in a 148 career games with the Capitals since the movie.

The 30-year-old has 59 goals and 48 assists and a 107 points in the 148 games. Last season, he had 33 goals and 23 assists in 68 games with the team.
