“You can put me in different roles,” Foligno said. “You can use me in different scenarios. At the end of the day, I’m going to be a hard-working forward that sticks up for [my] teammates and plays a simple game. I look up and down that lineup, it’s a very talented, skilled lineup with great centermen.

“I’m excited because you want to push for the playoffs every season and I haven’t done that yet with Buffalo. Minnesota’s definitely a team that’s built for success in the playoffs. I’m just hoping I can come in there and just be a small voice, but hopefully have a big impact on the team, so we can make a long-run in the playoffs.”

The Wild also acquired the Sabres’ third-round pick in next year’s draft. The Sabres also acquired Minnesota’s fourth-round pick next year.

Pominville returns to the Sabres in this deal. He spent the first eight-and-a-half years with Buffalo before being traded to Minnesota.

The Sabres had a clear need on defense. Scandella helps with their need, as he had 27 goals and 89 points in 373 games in seven-years in the league.
