Kalitta leads Friday night Bandimere qualifying

Mac Tools Top Fuel pilot Doug Kalitta is the provisional No. 1 qualifier at the 38th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. Kalitta set a elapsed time record on his second qualifying session with a 3.767 at 323.97 mph.

If Kalitta holds onto the top spot, it’ll be his second No. 1 qualifier of the season. In addition, it’ll be his 49th No. 1 qualifier of his career.

“I was confident coming into the day, but knew nothing would be easy at a track like this,” he said. “I tip my hat to my guys after not even making a run in the first-round to having the type of run we were able to have in the second qualifying session.”

Steve Torrence, the Capco Contractors Top Fuel pilot, is the provisional No. 2 qualifier. He went 3.775 at 323.97 mph.

Eight-time World Champion Tony Schumacher is presently the No. 3 qualifier. He went 3.776 at 326.63 in his U.S. Army dragster.

Schumacher is a three-time winner at Bandimere.

Monster Energy dragster pilot Brittany Force is fourth following her 3.782 at 318.84 mph pass. Global Electronic Technology dragster pilot Shawn Langdon is presently in the fifth position after going 3.795 at 313.37 mph.
