Jim Dunn Racing pilot Jim Campbell has pulled the upset in the first-round of the Funny Car eliminations at the 38th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. He defeated Advance Auto Parts pilot Courtney Force.
Campbell is now 5-12 in round win-loss on the season despite being the 16th-seed in this race, while Force was the No. 1 seed. However, this is the second straight race that he has won in the first-round.
Two weeks ago at the Fallen Patriots NHRA Route 66 Nationals presented by K&N Filters, he defeated Force’s teammate and John Force Racing president Robert Hight in the first-round. Campbell went 4.082 to Hight’s 6.473.
This is the third-time that Campbell has defeated Force in the first-round of eliminations. He first defeated her at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona when he went 4.182 to Force’s 6.362.
At the very next race, the historic Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida, Campbell also took out Force in the first-round. He went 4.370 to Force’s 6.531.
When he defeated Force at the NHRA Arizona Nationals in the second race of the season, Campbell advanced to the semi-finals before losing to Ron Capps. Capps went 3.883 compared to Campbell’s 4.890 pass.
