The Great Khali last appeared with the WWE in November 2014 before his contract expired and was not renewed by the company. But on Sunday night at the WWE Battleground pay-per-view at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philadelphia, the big man returned.
The 44-year-old giant is considered a “personal hero” of WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. He also helped Mahal retain his belt over Randy Orton in a Punjabi Prison match.
The Great Khali, a former World Heavyweight champion, is considered the creator of the match that Mahal won. During the main event of the pay-per-view, he came to the aid of Mahal after Orton eliminated The Singh Brothers.
He stopped the Apex Predator from escaping the structure. With the 7-foot-1 giant by his side, Mahal was able to escape the prison and keep the belt.
The WWE is planning to keep the strap with Mahal through at least WrestleMania as the company helps to attack the India audience. The Great Khali and Mahal entered into the WWE at around the same time in 2007.
