The Denver Broncos acquired guard Allen Barbre in a trade on Wednesday night with the Philadelphia Eagles. In exchange for the veteran, a 2019 conditional seventh-round pick goes to the City of Brotherly Love.

Barbre gets moved after being on the trading block for quite some time. The Eagles were going to release him prior to the Broncos reaching out to express their interest in him.

If he fails to make the roster, then the Broncos will keep their seventh-round pick. He’s expected to compete with Max Garcia for a starting guard position.

Ronald Leary, who signed with the Broncos this off-season after spending time with the Dallas Cowboys, is secure in the other guard position. If he cannot surpass Garcia despite being handicapped with a late start, he could be used as a back-up to the guard and tackle positions.

“I don’t see why not,” he said to Denver7. “I have played in multiple systems. I know what they are trying to do there. It’s up to me to pick up the terminology quickly.

“But I am excited to get there. This is a great opportunity.”

Last season, with the Eagles, he made 12 starts. He played primarily at left guard with some time at right tackle. He was not expected to make the Eagles roster — and was hampered by a calf injury during the spring.

He split time with Isaac Seumalo. He’s going into the camp as the starter.

“Isaac’s the starter and there’s just competition from there,” Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich said. “That’s the great thing about training camp, the great thing about this business: It’s just so stinking competitive. It’s what the guys love about it. It’s what we love about it. So, again, it’ll play itself out.”
