In a reverse of course, the Houston Astros have acquired starting pitcher Justin Verlander. The Detroit Tigers are receiving Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron and Jake Rodgers in the deal.

In our previous post, an hour ago, we reported that Verlander blocked yet another deal. However, that is now not the case, as respected baseball writers Jon Heyman and Bob Nightengale are reporting the deal is done.

With the Astros, he’ll now become a starter, as the team aims for another World Series appearance. Verlander will join a rotation that is led by Dallas Keuchel.

With Lance McCullers injured and David Paulino suspended, Verlander is a huge get for the team. He could be the team’s second-best pitcher when the playoffs role around.

The 34-year-old has spent his entire career with the Tigers. He made his debut with the team during the 2005 season.

This season, he has a 10-8 record with a 3.82 ERA in 172 innings. In his career, he has a 183-114 record with a 3.49 ERA in a 380 starts in 2,511 innings. He has 23 complete games and seven shutouts.

Now, with the Tigers over the final weeks of the season, he’ll just play out the season with no shot of making the playoffs. Despite his efforts of blocking two deals now, the team will likely try to deal him again in the off-season.

Prior to the All-Star break, the Astros were first in win percentage, ERA, opponents batting average and opponents on-base percentage. However, in the weeks after the break, the team is now 11th in win percentage, eighth in ERA along with fifth in both opponents batting average and opponents on-base percentage.
