Tennessee Volunteers head coach Butch Jones has elected to start Quinten Dormady at quarterback. He replaces long-time Vols signal-caller Joshua Dobbs, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Dormady defeated redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano for the position. The junior also spent the past two seasons as a back-up to Dobbs.
He only appeared in just two games last season. Now, he’ll have his chance to have all the spotlight, as the team opens up on Labor Day against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
This will be his first career start, as he never started in his previous 10 games. He appeared in four games last season and six as a rookie in 2015.
He went 11 of 17 last season for 148 yards. As a freshman, he went 13 of 22 for 209 yards and a touchdown.
In two seasons, he has 11 carries for eight yards.
