Parts Plus/ Great Clips/ UNOH Top Fuel dragster pilot Clay Millican is the No. 1 qualifier at the sixth annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill. Millican set the quickest pass in NHRA history during Friday’s qualifying sessions.
Millican went 3.631 at 330.39 mph during the quickest pass. This is his fifth No. 1 qualifier of the season and the 10th of his career.
He’ll face off against Kyle Wurtzel in the first-round of eliminations on Sunday.
“We felt pretty certain we were going to stay No. 1,” Millican said. “The conditions weren’t there to run that kind of number there again. [Saturday] we were thinking about those bonus points and we were scuffing some tires to get ready for [Sunday].
“We feel like we have a pretty good handle on this car. Whether it’s hot or cold, it just continues to be really quick going down the race track. It’s going to be a fun day [on Sunday]. We want to see four win-lights [on Sunday.] Where we are at in points, we need to make a move.”
Papa John’s Top Fuel dragster pilot Leah Pritchett is the No. 2 qualifier with her 3.670 at 329.83 mph. She’ll face Rapisarda Autosport International Top Fuel dragster fill-in pilot Ashley Sanford, who went 3.842 at 299.86 mph, in the first-round of eliminations. She’s filling in this weekend for Wayne Newby, who had to fly back to Australia to handle business at his business there.
Eight-time World Champion and U.S. Army Top Fuel dragster pilot Tony Schumacher is the No. 3 qualifier with a 3.680 at 330.72 mph pass. He’ll face Bill Miller Engineering Top Fuel dragster‘s Troy Buff in the first-round after his 3.839 at 314.17 mph pass.
Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster pilot Doug Kalitta went 3.681 at 332.18 mph for the No. 4 qualifying spot. He’ll face Marck Industries/Tommy Thompson Motorsports Top Fuel dragster pilot Scott Palmer in the first-round after he went 3.785 at 326.24 mph.
Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster pilot Brittany Force is the No. 5 qualifier following her 3.690 at 329.58 mph pass. Force, who won last weekend’s Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., will face Pat Dakin, who went 3.768 at 323.27 mph.
