Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota left Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. He did not return to the game after being injured.

Mariota suffered a hamstring injury. Backup Matt Cassel finished the rest of the game, despite the team being blown out.

It is not clear exactly when Mariota’s injury happened. But he was ruled out quickly by the team.

There are several types of hamstring injuries. If it is a Grade 1 hamstring injury, it is a minor strain that could potentially heal in a few days to a few weeks. If it is a Grade 2 hamstring injury, it is a moderate strain that could take several weeks to months to heal.

Finally, it is the most severe scenario, Mariota could have suffered a complete tear. If it is this scenario, it would require surgery and several months to heal.

The team may use the RICE approach first before undergoing tests. The RICE method is rest, ice, compression, and elevation.

It’ll be interesting to see if he’ll practice this week with this injury. If he does not practice, the team will likely give Cassel the start in a precaution against the Miami Dolphins, who have looked woeful in their past two games.

In his first four games of the 2017 season, Mariota is 66 of 110 for 792 yards. He has three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Two of those interceptions came in Sunday’s game. He was 6 of 10 for 96 yards with the two picks before leaving with the injury.

In his last game, he threw for 225 yards in a 33-27 win over the Seattle Seahawks. The 225 passing yards were the most since his season-opening performance when he had 256 passing yards in a 26-16 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
