For the second straight year, Kalitta Motorsports has made a surprise announcement at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. Last year, the team announced that Troy Coughlin Jr. would be a driver for the team during the 2017 season.

After a disappointing season for Coughlin Jr., he decided to walk away from the SealMaster Top Fuel dragster prior to the prestigious Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway. He was replaced by Richie Crampton.

In another shocker, Kalitta Motorsports has announced Shawn Langdon will move from Top Fuel to Funny Car next season. This will be Langdon’s first Funny Car experience.

His current sponsor, Global Electronic Technology, will also move with him to Funny Car.

Langdon is the second Kalitta driver to make the switch in back-to-back seasons. J.R. Todd, who was previously the SealMaster Top Fuel dragster pilot, before Coughlin Jr. took over for several months this season, is the DHL Funny Car driver.

Langdon will reportedly help replace Alexis DeJoria and her Tequila Patrón team, as she announced her retirement on Monday.

DeJoria made her retirement, as she wants to spend more time with her 15-year-old daughter, who she couldn’t bring to races with her.
