As the NBA prepares for its opening night on Tuesday, there was a serious incident at practice with the Chicago Bulls. There was a fight between Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotić.
Mirotić has been hospitalized following the physical altercation between the two players. He’s sidelined indefinitely.
The two players were shoving each other, according to reports, when Portis allegedly hit Mirotić with a cheap shot to the face. Mirotić is reportedly having tests done at the hospital and will be out for a while.
Mirotić, 26, is the Bulls starting power forward. Now, head coach Fred Hoiberg will have to rearrange his lineup until Mirotić is able to return.
Mirotić returned to the Bulls in the off-season. He signed a two-year, $27 million deal to stay in the Windy City.
Portis may face a fine and possibly even a suspension from this incident. That will be announced at a later date if he does.
Portis was the Bulls 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
