Early on, it was believed after he was fired by the Florida Gators, Jim McElwain was considered a front-runner to be the Oregon State Head Coach. But on Friday night, according to FootballScoop, McElwain does not have a job again.
The school has gone in another direction. The school is expected to hire California Bears offensive coordinator Beau Baldwin to be their next head coach.
The Bears and the UCLA Bruins are playing in their last regular season game of the season.

Baldwin is not expected to accept the offer until Oregon State completes its regular season. Once the Beavers hire Baldwin, they will be the first FBS coach to hire its new head coach for the 2018 season.
He replaces Gary Andersen. The school mutually agreed to part ways with Andersen on October 9th.
This was his first season at an FBS school. He was previously the Eastern Washington Eagles Head Coach at the FCS level from 2008 through 2016.
He also spent one season as the Central Washington Head Coach in 2007. He was 10-3 at Central Washington, while he was 85-32 at Eastern Washington.

Baldwin guided the Eagles in the FCS playoffs six times in his nine seasons at the school. He also guided the Eagles to the FCS National Championship in 2010.
This season, the Beavers went 1-10. The school is hoping with this hire, Baldwin could turn the program around.
Oregon State has not appeared in a Bowl game since 2013.
