The Ole Miss Rebels are removing its interim tag off of interim head coach Matt Luke. He’s going to be their permanent head coach.
Luke was put in a tough position as he was named interim head coach this summer after Hugh Freeze was given an ultimatum: be fired for moral cause or resign. The ultimatum was given after the school found out he allegedly contacted an escort service.
Houston Nutt, who was Freeze’s predecessor, sued the Rebels in July 2017. In his lawsuit against the school, his lawyer discovered a call by Freeze to a female escort service on a campus-owned cell phone.

With that looking over his head, Luke guided the Rebels to a 6-6 record. Ole Miss even won the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving night against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Normally, a 6-6 record would qualify your team for a Bowl game. Instead, due to violations, outside of the escort service call, and in relation to allegations involving former Rebel Laremy Tunsil, the school self-imposed a Bowl game ban for this season.

Luke has been with the Rebels since the 2012 season when he was hired as their co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach. He was previously a player for the Rebels, as he was a center from 1995 to 1998.
