The Tennessee Volunteers have hired Greg Schiano to be its next head coach. Schiano comes to Knoxville, Tennessee after spending the past two seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio.
While with the Buckeyes, he served as the Buckeyes assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He replaces Butch Jones and Brady Hoke.
After Jones was fired earlier this month, Hoke was then promoted to be an interim head coach.

There was some speculation that Monday Night Football commentator Jon Gruden would be a candidate for the job. But that never materialized.
Schiano, like Chip Kelly, returns to college football this offseason after a failed experience in the NFL. He was 11-21 in two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kelly, who was just hired on Saturday as the UCLA Bruins Head Coach, had a failed experience in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers.

The 51-year-old Schiano has gone 68-67 in college football. He had a .504 win percentage as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Head Coach.
This is the first time that Schiano will have a job in the Southeastern Conference. His hiring is the first to fill one of four head coaching vacancies within the conference.
After four straight losing seasons to begin his tenure with the Scarlet Knights, he had five winning seasons in the past six years.
