Ohio State Buckeyes assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Greg Schiano will not be the next Tennessee Volunteers head football coach after all. We reported earlier today that he was going to be their next head coach.
Tennessee received backlash from students and politicians after word leaked out that the school was going to hire him. Both sides had agreed to a deal before this happened.

He was supposed to be introduced as the new Volunteers Head Coach this evening.

Volunteers athletic director John Currie was in Columbus, Ohio this morning to get the deal done. According to Sports Illustrated’s Bruce Feldman, Schiano is seeking a buyout now from the school.
Both sides were bullied out of their contract over an alleged allegation that Schiano helped hide the Jerry Sandusky case. He was an assistant coach at Penn State when some of the allegations took place.
A Philadelphia court revealed in 2016, about the Sandusky case, that Mike McQueary testified that Schiano was aware of Jerry Sandusky’s decades-long rape of children. Sandusky is serving 30 to 60 years in prison after being found guilty in 2012.

“Only that he had — I can’t remember if it was one night or one morning — but that Greg had come into his office white as a ghost and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower,” McQueary testified as saying. “And that’s it. That’s all he ever told me.”
Schiano denies the allegations.
Currie and his Volunteers’ group will have to regroup. One thing we do know is that Jon Gruden and current Washington State Head Coach Mike Leach will not take the job.
