Rypien leads Broncos past No. 25 Bulldogs

The Boise State Broncos defeated No. 25 Fresno State Bulldogs on Saturday night to win the Mountain West Conference Championship game in Boise, Idaho. The Broncos won 17-14 at Albertsons Stadium.

This is their second Mountain West Conference Championship game win. They were then-No. 22 when they also defeated Fresno State 28-14 in 2014, which was also in Albertsons Stadium.

Boise State is now tied with the San Diego State Aztecs, who are a perfect 2-0 in this game. They won the Mountain West Conference Championship games in 2015 and 2016.

Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien went 16 of 30 for 246 passing yards.

Alexander Mattison had 14 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Wolphin had 11 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Cedrick Wilson had eight receptions for 148 yards. A.J. Richardson had two receptions for 53 yards.

Broncos kicker Haden Hoggarth also had a field goal.

Bulldogs quarterback Marcus McMaryion went 16 of 34 for 172 passing yards. He also had an interception.

Josh Hokit had nine carries for 46 yards. McMaryion had seven carries for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Da’Mari Scott also had four carries for 25 yards.

KeeSean Johnson had five receptions for 58 yards. Jared Rice had three receptions for 44 yards. Dejonte O’Neal had two receptions for 23 yards.
