There are a lot of Bowl games for college football teams to play in each season. But with these Bowl games, there are bound to be some Bowl games that are less attractive – and thus fewer people attend.
The Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl had a horrible attendance last night between the Temple Owls and the Florida International University Golden Panthers. It would have been worse if more than 100 family and friends attended for the McGough family, who had brothers Alex and Shane playing.
The Gasparilla Bowl has been around since the 2008 season. It celebrated its 10th anniversary last night with a dud in attendance. This Bowl game was previously known as the St. Petersburg Bowl.
The Gasparilla Bowl looked much like the 2017 Miami Beach Bowl. Very few people also attended that Bowl game.
The Miami Beach Bowl lasted three seasons before becoming the DXL Frisco Bowl. The Bowl game, which was played at Marlins Park, was sold to ESPN before it was relocated to Texas.
The American Athletic Conference was the owner and operator of the Miami Beach Bowl, before it was eventually sold to ESPN Events. At the last Miami Beach Bowl, the Central Michigan Chippewas and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane played in the game.
Ok, that’s a less attractive game, as was the Temple and FIU game on Thursday night.
Unfortunately, with the woeful attendance at last night’s contest, this game is doomed, liked the Miami Beach Bowl. That game was relocated to Frisco, Texas, who is the host for the FCS National Championship the past several years, and had a better attendance than they did last year in Miami Beach.
So, with the horrible attendance, it would not be surprising if this Bowl game relocates before next season’s Bowl schedule is released. Or, better yet, joins the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, as a now defunct Bowl game.
Plus, Florida, even without the Miami Beach Bowl, has eight Bowl games. The Gasparilla Bowl, along with the Outback Bowl on January 1st, call Tampa, Florida home.
Florida has the most Bowl games, as Texas is second with seven. No other state has more than three. If this Bowl game is relocated, move it out of the South, as there are only four bowl games – Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the Quick Lane Bowl, the Pinstripe Bowl and Military Bowl – that are in the northern part of the country.
