According to our sources, the Detroit Lions are expected to fire head coach Jim Caldwell. He will coach his final game with the team against the Green Bay Packers.
The Lions were eliminated from playoff contention last weekend. They could end the season with a 9-7 record with a win over the Packers.
The 62-year-old Caldwell has been the Lions Head Coach since the 2014 season. If they can defeat the Packers on Sunday, they would end the season with back-to-back 9-7 records.

He’s 35-28 as the Lions Head Coach. Detroit only had one losing season with Caldwell as head coach, which came during the 2015 season when they went 7-9.
Caldwell is also 0-2 in playoff appearances as Lions Head Coach. Both of the losses came during Wild Card Weekend, losing to the Dallas Cowboys and the Seattle Seahawks.
In respect to Caldwell, no Lions Head Coach has won a playoff game since January 5th, 1992 when they defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 38-6, in the NFC Divisional Round. Since then, the Lions are 0-9 in playoff games.

The Lions are expected to target New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to be their next head coach. However, no team can officially hire him until the Patriots are eliminated in the playoffs, or they win the Super Bowl.
Bob Quinn, the Lions general manager, has had extensive experience in the Patriots front office in multiple roles from 2000 through 2015. He has been with the Lions for the past two seasons.
