The Alabama Crimson Tide have found their next star quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa has likely cost Jalen Hurts his starting job.
Hurts is 25-2 as a college football starter. However, after he struggled on the big stage of the College Football Playoff National Championship game, Nick Saban made the switch at halftime to his true freshman.
Tagovailoa then would lead the Crimson Tide to a historic win in comeback fashion over the Georgia Bulldogs in overtime. Alabama won 26-23 on Monday night at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
After taking a sack on the Crimson Tide’s first play of their overtime possession, Tagovailoa hit Devonta Smith for a 41-yard touchdown. Now, the Hawai’ian will be a legend in Tuscaloosa for the rest of his life.
Despite being there by his side, Hurts has to know his time his up now. The true freshman guided the team to the national championship that Hurts could not do over the past two seasons.
Whenever Hurts goes, he will have to sit out a season, before being eligible to play in 2019.
The sophomore Texas native had 2,081 passing yards this season. He had 17 touchdowns and an interception.
In his two-year career, he has 4,861 passing yards. He also has 40 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
