Underdog Champs: Eagles defeat the Patriots

The underdogs are the Super Bowl Champions. The Philadelphia Eagles used this underdog mantra all playoff long to defeat the New England Patriots on Sunday night in Super Bowl LII.

The Eagles won 41-33 over the Patriots at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is the Eagles first Super Bowl in franchise history.

This is the team’s fourth championship in their franchise, as they also won in 1948, 1949 and in 1960, all NFL Championships.

The Eagles ended the season with a 16-3 record. The Patriots fell to 15-4.

Philadelphia is the second NFC East team, besides the New York Giants, to defeat the Tom Brady, Bill Belichick regime in the Super Bowl era.

The Eagles and the Patriots set a Super Bowl record with combined yards. They had 1,151 total yards.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went 28 of 48 for 505 yards. He had three touchdown passes.

James White had seven carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Rob Gronkowski had nine receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

Eagles quarterback Nick Foles went 28 of 43 for 373 yards. He had three touchdown passes and one interception.

LeGarrette Blount had 14 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. Nelson Agholor had nine receptions for 84 yards.

The Patriots outscored the Eagles 21-19 in the second half. Brady hit Gronkowski for a five-yard touchdown reception. Brady also hit Chris Hogan for a 26-yard touchdown reception.

Brady also connected with Gronkowski for a second touchdown. This one was a four-yard touchdown reception.

Foles hit Corey Clement for a 22-yard touchdown reception. Foles also connected with Zach Ertz for an 11-yard touchdown reception.

Jake Elliott made two field goals. He made his first field goal from 42 yards. His second field goal was made from 46 yards.

The Eagles outscored the Patriots 22-12 at halftime. Foles hit Alshon Jeffrey for a 34-yard touchdown reception. Blount also scored on a 21-yard rushing touchdown.

Trey Burton hit Foles for a one-yard touchdown reception. Elliott also made a 25-yard field goal.

White scored on a 26-yard rushing touchdown. Stephen Gostkowski made two field goals.

He first made a 26-yard field goal. He also made a 45-yard field goal.
