The Philadelphia 76ers were interested in acquiring Marco Belinelli prior to the trade deadline. Now, they are expected to add him without giving up any assets.

Belinelli will be bought out by the Atlanta Hawks. The Sixers, according to ESPN, were one of the multiple teams, who were interested in his services.

The Sixers promised Belinelli a significant role off the bench. They are looking to make the playoffs for the first-time in five-years. Right now, Philadelphia is the eighth-best team in the Eastern Conference with a 28-25 record.

The Hawks were the worst team in the Eastern Conference with a 17-39 record. They are 22.5 games out of first-place, which is presently held by the Toronto Raptors with a 38-16 record.

The 31-year-old Belinelli is expected to clear waivers on Monday. When the Hawks were attempting to deal Belinelli, we’re not clear what they’re asking price is. They bought out the remaining $6.3 million of his deal

He had to be bought out — like any other bought out player — by March 1st in order to be playoff eligible. This season, Belinelli is averaging 11.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, two assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game.

Belinelli was in his first season with the Hawks. He was traded to the Hawks from the Charlotte Hornets on June 20th, 2017.

Belinelli, Miles Plumlee, along with a 2017 second-round draft pick (Tyler Dorsey) was traded to the Hornets for Dwight Howard and a 2017 second-round draft pick (Frank Jackson).

In his NBA career, Belinelli has played for the New Orleans Hornets, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors and the Hawks.
