The Canadiens are retaining 50% of Plekanec’s deal. He is making $5 million this season in the final year of his two-year, $12 million deal.
The 35-year-old is now limited offensively. However, he could play shut down defense against the other team’s best forwards.
This will be the second NHL team that Plekanec has played for, as he spent his entire career with the Canadiens prior to this trade. In 981 games, he had 232 goals and 373 assists for 605 points.
This season, Plekanec has six goals and 18 assists for 24 goals this season. As of this moment, the six goals would be the fewest in a season since his rookie campaign in 2003-04 when he did not score in two games.
Baun, 25, played in five NHL games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He did not register a point, but had a -3 in +/- and took five shots.
Rychel, 23, has played in 37 games at the NHL level with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He has two goals and 10 assists for 12 points. He also has 17 PIM.
Rychel has played in 55 games with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL this season. He has 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points.
Valiev, 22, has played in 10 games at the NHL level with the Maple Leafs. He did not register a point.
Valiev has played in 40 games with the Marlies this season. He has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points.
