Steve Torrence snapped a two-year win streak by Leah Pritchett at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona on Sunday. Torrence, piloting his Torrence Racing/Capco Contractors dragster, defeated Scott Palmer in the final round.
Torrence went 3.729 at 330.72 mph to get his first Wally of the 2018 season. Palmer, who was appearing in his first final round in his NHRA career, went 6.449 at 102.70 mph.

“There is no easy round in this Top Fuel class anymore, you can’t take anybody lightly, but it was a heck of a day with some pretty great races,” Torrence said. “The round against my dad [Billy Torrence] is one that ranks up there that you remember as a high note that you remember of your career.”
This is Torrence’s 18th career win in the Top Fuel ranks. He had a career-high eight wins during the 2017 season.
Torrence defeated his father in the semifinals. He also defeated Steve Chrisman, Blake Alexander and Palmer in the final round.
Palmer defeated Richie Crampton, Pritchett and Greg Carrillo to reach his first final round.
Torrence and Palmer have a tight bond. Torrence, along with the Lagana brothers, who work for Torrence Racing, helped Palmer get in the sport several years ago.
