The Atlanta Braves have released pitcher Scott Kazmir. He was due to make $17.6 million in the final year of his contract.
Kazmir was their second-highest paid player on the team prior to his release on Saturday. He was let go after going just one inning against the New York Mets in a spring training outing with what is being described as “arm fatigue.”
He has not pitched in the Big Leagues since 2016. Since then, he has been hampered with injuries.

The Braves will still have to pay his salary this season. In 9 2/3 innings during spring training, he had a 4.66 ERA.
He was acquired by the Braves in December in a blockbuster deal that also netted Atlanta three additional players in Adrián González, Brandon McCarthy, and Charlie Culberson. Matt Kemp went back to the Dodgers in the deal.
González was designated for assignment shortly after the deal. He has since been picked up by the Mets.

With Kazmir no longer in the picture, Aníbal Sánchez will now be the Braves No. 5 starter this season.
In his last MLB season as a 32-year-old with the Dodgers, Kazmir went 10-6 in 26 starts. He had a 4.56 ERA in 136 1/3 innings.
