The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent quarterback Drew Stanton on Sunday night. He has received a two-year deal.

While no official terms have been released, the team is reportedly worth $6.5 million. And it’ll go through the 2019 season.

He’ll backup Tyrod Taylor, who was acquired in a deal with the Buffalo Bills to become the team’s No. 1 starter to begin the season. Stanton’s agent first broke the news on social media when he congratulated his client on the signing.

Stanton, who was the backup to Carson Palmer and Blaine Gabbert with the Arizona Cardinals last season, is now a part of a crowded quarterback ground. Besides Taylor and Stanton, the team also has Cody Kessler and Kevin Hogan.

In addition, with the No. 1 overall pick, the Browns are expected to take a quarterback. The belief is that the Browns are going to use the top pick to draft Sam Darnold, the former USC Trojans signal-caller.

With the likely addition of Darnold, one or possibly both of Kessler and Hogan may not return once training camp starts. The Browns could also benefit from this move, as they could deal Kessler or Hogan for future draft picks instead of releasing one or both of them outright.

The 33-year-old veteran, who spent the past four seasons with the Cardinals, appeared in five games last season. He went 79 of 159 for 894 passing yards while having six touchdowns and five interceptions.

Stanton has appeared in 10 games over the last two seasons. Prior to that, in his first two seasons with the Cardinals, he appeared in 16 games, including a career-high nine appearances in 2014.

Before joining the Cardinals, he played three seasons with the Detroit Lions.
