The Philadelphia 76ers are going to be without their big man Joel Embiid indefinitely. Embiid will have surgery to repair his orbital fracture in his left eye.
He will have the surgery in the next few days. Once he has the operation, the 76ers will have a better idea on exactly how long he will miss.
According to ESPN.com, Embiid will be out 2-4 weeks. However, several players, who have had this same injury, did not even miss that much time.
Embiid may elect to wear a mask and to continue to play, as the 76ers push towards the playoffs for the first-time since the 2011-12 season when when they defeated the Chicago Bulls (4-2) in the first-round, before losing 4-3 to the Boston Celtics on the Conference Semifinals. Some players have missed two games with this injury, before returning with a mask.
The 24-year-old was injured in last night’s game against the New York Knicks. He collided with Markelle Fultz on a screen play.
Embiid, who has developed into a star, along with Ben Simmons, has played in 63 games this season. He’s averaging 22.9 points, along with 11 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.
