Wagner leads the Wolverines back to the National Championship game

The No. 3 seed Michigan Wolverines are the first team to advance to the National Championship game of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The Wolverines defeated No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, 69-57, in the Final Four on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The Wolverines improved to 33-7 on the season. They are also the first program in NCAA Tournament history to not face a Top 5 seed en route to the National Championship game.

Michigan will be appearing in its first National Championship game since 2013. That season, they were defeated by the Louisville Cardinals in the final game of the season.

The Wolverines; however, are 1-3 all-time in National Championship games. They had to vacate wins from multiple seasons after Michigan violated terms after the NCAA found them guilty of improper benefits.

Cinderella struck Midnight, as the Ramblers ended their season with a 32-6 record. They are now 2-1 all-time in Final Four appearances.

Moritz Wagner led the Wolverines with 24 points. He also had 15 rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

Wagner was one of two Michigan players, who scored in double-figures. Charles Matthews also scored 17 points.

The Wolverines had 12 bench points. Jordan Poole led the bench with seven points.

Cameron Krutwig led the Ramblers with 17 points. He also had six rebounds, one assist, and one block.

Krutwig was one of three Loyola-Chicago players, who scored in double-digits. Clayton Custer had 15 points, while Aundre Jackson added 10 points.

The Ramblers had 11 bench points. Jackson had all 10 of his points off of the bench.
