Free agent linebacker James Harrison has announced his retirement on Monday. He made his decision known via an Instagram post.
Harrison was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers right before Christmas last season after barely playing. He then signed with the New England Patriots, where he rejuvenated his season.
The 39-year-old, who will be 40-years-old on May 4th, played five games with the Steelers last season. He had three tackles and a sack.
After signing with the Patriots after Christmas, he played in the regular season finale. In that contest, he had three tackles, 2.0 sacks, and a forced fumble.
Harrison also played in three playoff games with the Patriots. However, his presence was not there, as he only had seven tackles.
Harrison played for three teams in his NFL career. Besides playing for the Steelers and the Patriots, he also played for the Cincinnati Bengals.
In his career, he has appeared in 193 games, including 117 starts. He had 573 tackles, 84.5 sacks, 8 interceptions, 34 forced fumbles, 9 fumble recoveries, and 26 pass deflections.
He was a five-time Pro Bowler in 15 NFL seasons. He was also a two-time Super Bowl Champions with the Steelers.
