Gonzalez leads Pro Mod provisional field in Houston

Jose Gonzalez is the provisional No. 1 Pro Mod qualifier on Friday at the NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. He went 5.696 at 257.78 mph in E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series event presented by J&A Service.

Gonzalez took the provisional top spot on his second pass during the third Pro Mod race of the season.

“We actually made three changes before that run, but we never thought we had that much,” he said. “This is just my second event here, so this actually feels good. The competition is just so tough here anything can happen [Saturday] now.”

“Fast Stevie” Jackson is the provisional No. 2 qualifier. He went 5.707 at 249.53 mph.

Mike Janis is the provisional No. 3 qualifier after he went 5.733 at 248.61 mph. Chad Green is the provisional No. 4 qualifier following his 5.746 at 250.23 mph pass.

Jeremy Ray is the provisional No. 5 qualifier after he went 5.761 at 248.66 mph.
