Preview: UFC Fight Night 128 in Atlantic City

The UFC Fight Night 128: Barboza vs. Lee will take place this evening at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. This is the promotion’s ninth visit to New Jersey’s gaming capital.

However, this is their first event in Atlantic City since July 2014. This is also their first event at the Boardwalk Hall since June 2005.

Jim Miller is expected to fight Dan Hooker, as the first fight of the main card. The 34-year-old Miller is 28-11-1 in his MMA career.

The Sparta, N.J. native has won 14 fights by submission. He has also won 10 by decision and four via knockout.

Miller has lost three straight bouts, all since Feb. 2017. He was defeated by Francisco Trinaldo and Anthony Pettis by unanimous decision, while he lost to Dustin Poirier by majority decision.

He has not won a bout since he defeated Thiago Alves at UFC 205 on Nov. 2016 by unanimous decision.

The 28-year-old Hooker is 15-7 in his MMA career. The New Zealand native has won seven fights via submission and seven more by knockout. He also won a fight by decision.

He comes into this lightweight fight with Miller with a two bout win streak since June 2017. He defeated Ross Pearson via knockout at UFC Fight Night 110 in June 2017, then defeated Marc Diakiese at UFC 219 by submission on Dec. 2017.

He has not been defeated since losing to Jason Knight at UFC Fight Night 101 via submission on Nov. 2016.

Aljamain Sterling is slated to face Brett Johns in a bantamweight bout next. The 28-year-old Sterling is 14-3 in his MMA career.

Sterling has six wins via submission. He has also won six games by decision with two knockouts.

He lost his last bout to Marlon Moraes on Dec. 2017 at UFC Fight Night 123 in Dec. 2017. He has not won since he defeated Renan Barao at UFC 214 via unanimous decision in July 2017.

The 26-year-old Wales native is 15-0 in his MMA career. He has won eight bouts by decision. Johns also won five by submission and two by knockout.

He went one round in his last bout, as the Wales native defeated Joe Soto at UFC – The Ultimate Fighter 26 finale by calf slicer just 30 seconds into the bout.

Thiago Santos is scheduled to face David Branch in a middleweight bout. The 34-year-old Santos is 17-5 in his MMA career.

The Brazilian has won 12 bouts by knockout and four fights by decision. He has also won a fight by submission.

Santos has won four straight bouts. He defeated Anthony Smith by TKO (Kick to the Body and Punches) at UFC Fight Night 125 in Feb. 2018. He also defeated Jack Marshman, Gerald Meerschaert, and Jack Hermansson in 2017.

He has not been defeated since UFC Fight Night 95 by rear-naked choke submission to Eric Spicely in Sept. 2016.

Branch is 21-4 in his MMA career. The 36-year-old has won nine bouts by decision and seven via submission.

He also has five knockouts in his career.

Branch lost his last bout at UFC Fight Night 116 in Sept. 2017 when he lost by TKO (Submission to Punches) to Luke Rockhold. He has wnot won a bout since he defeated Krzysztof Jotko at UFC 221 by a split decision in May 2017.

Prior to this fight when he lost to Jotko, he had won 11 straight bouts.

Frankie Edgar, who is fighting a short distance from his Toms River, N.J. hometown, will fight in the co-main event against Cub Swanson. This will be a featherweight bout.

The 36-year-old Edgar is 22-6 in his MMA career. He has won 11 bouts by decision and seven more by knockout.

He has also won four fights by submission.

Edgar was defeated by Brian Ortega at UFC 222 by knockout in the first-round in March. He was scheduled to face Max Holloway for the UFC Featherweight Championship before Holloway had to pull out of the bout in Feb. due to an injury.

He has not won since defeating Yair Rodriguez by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) in the second round at UFC 211 in May 2017.

This is the second bout between Edgar and Swanson. They last fought each other at UFC Fight Night 57 in Nov. 2014 when Edgar won by a neck crank submission.

Swanson is 25-8 in his MMA career. The 34-year-old has won 11 bouts by knockout and ten more by decision.

He also has four submission wins.

Swanson lost his last bout against Ortega in Dec. 2017 at UFC Fight Night 123 by submission. He has not won a fight since he defeated Artem Lobov at UFC Fight Night 108 by decision in April 2017.

Kevin Lee will face Edson Barboza in the 157-pound catch weight main event. The 25-year-old Lee is 16-3 in his MMA career.

He has eight submission wins, along with seven wins by decision. He also has one knockout.

Lee, the Michigan native, lost his last fight to Tony Ferguson at UFC 216 by submission (triangle choke) in Oct. 2017. He has not won since he defeated Michael Chiesa at UFC Fight Night 112 by technical submission (rear-naked choke) in June 2017.

Barboza is 19-5 in his MMA career. The 32-year-old has 11 wins by knockout and seven more by decision.

He also has one submission win.

The Brazilian lost his last fight to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 219 by unanimous decision in Dec. 2017. He has not won since he defeated Benell Dariush at UFC Fight Night 106 by knockout in March 2017.
