As the Hurricanes Head Coach, he did not finish better than sixth in his division. In fact, Peters did not guide the team to the playoffs in any of his seasons in North Carolina.

The 36 wins were the most he had during a season. The Hurricanes had back-to-back 36 game seasons.

Peters is going to a team that went 37-35-10 to finish fifth in the Pacific Division. Yet, they did not make the playoffs and their season came to an end after a 7-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on April 7th.
