Arana Jr. leads PSM after first pass in Virginia

North Dinwiddie, Va. — Hector Arana Jr. is the provisional No. 1 Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifier after the first pass at the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in North Dinwiddie, Virginia. Arana Jr. went 6.825 at 199.14 mph.

Matt Smith, who rides the Victory Polaris Magnum and won last weekend’s event in Joliet, Illinois, is presently qualified second through the first pass. He went 6.837 at 193.74 mph.

Andrew Hines is the provisional No. 3 qualifier following the first run down the track. The Street Rod driver went 6.848 at 197.02 mph.

Steve Johnson, who is the first Suzuki TL in the Top Five, is presently the provisional No. 4 qualifier. He went 6.886 at 194.86 mph.

Delaware native Joey Gladstone is the provisional No. 5 qualifier. The Milton, DE rider went 6.889 at 192.82 mph.

There are 21 Pro Stock Motorcycles in the category. Only 16 bikes will make the field for Sunday.

Right now, Ron Tornow, Team Liberty Racing in Cory Reed and Angelle Sampey are out. Andie Rawlings and former champion LE Tonglet did not make their first appearance in the first pass.

While Kelly Clontz presently holds the 16th position, she went 7.118. After her, Tornow went 7.187, Sampey went 7.254, 7.289, Rawlings went 7.303, and Tonglet went 8.093.
