France and the winner of the Uruguay vs. Portugal will play on Friday in the quarterfinals.

Argentina has become the first team to score at least three goals. Then lose a World Cup game since the USSR vs. Belgium in 1986 (3-4).

France is undefeated in their last nine World Cup meetings with South America nations since they lost 1-2 against Argentina in the 1978 Tournament. In addition, this was the fifth time Argentina allowed four goals in a World Cup game — the first since losing 4-0 to Germany in the 2010 quarterfinals.

France took a 1-0 lead when Antoine Griezman scored in the 13th-minute. He scored on a penalty kick.

Argentina then took a 2-1 lead when the game reached the 48-minute mark. Ángel Di Maria scored to tie the game at one all at the 41st-minute mark.

Gabriel Mercado then gave Argentina the 2-1 lead when he scored in the 48-minute mark.

France rebounded in the next 20 minutes by scoring three goals. Benjamin Pavard scores in the 57-minute mark to tie the game at 2 all.

Kylian Mbappé then scored two goals for the 4-2 lead. He scored his first goal in the 64-minute mark, then scored again in the 68-minute mark.

Sergio Agüero scored in the 90th-minute plus three minutes to make the score 4-3.
