The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly motivated to deal shortstop Manny Machado. The impending free agent is likely going to be moved by the July 31st trade deadline.
The Orioles are struggling this season. Baltimore knows they can get a lot for Machado despite he may just become a rental player.
The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly improved their offer on Friday. It is unknown exactly what their offer is.
The Phillies, along with the Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers are in the mix. The New York Yankees are also in the mix but Baltimore may refuse to deal him within their division.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Phillies and Brewers are favorites to get Machado. Milwaukee is refusing to include top prospect, Corbin Burnes.
Olney also insists the Orioles want to move Machado as soon as possible. If the Phillies can pull off a deal, they would also like to have Zach Britton included.
The Phillies are reportedly willing to include shortstop J.P. Crawford in any package for Machado.
The 26-year-old has spent the past six-plus-years with the Orioles, including a four-time All-Star. He will make his final appearance as an All-Star with the Orioles on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.
Through 95 games this season, he has a .313 batting average with 23 home runs and 64 RBIs. He also has 21 doubles and one triple through 114 hits.
