Junior dos Santos was fighting a heavyweight, who he never saw before. Yet, despite going the distance, dos Santos defeated Blagoy Ivanov in the main event of UFC Fight Night 133 at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho.

dos Santos, who returned to the Octagon after being away for more than a year, defeated Ivanov by unanimous decision. All three judges had dos Santos winning 50-45.

Both fighters were left bloody after the fight.

The 34-year-old Brazilian improved to 18-5 in his MMA career. This is his fifth decision win in his career, but the first unanimous decision since UFC Fight Night 86 when he defeated Ben Rothwell on April 10th, 2016.

Prior to Saturday night, dos Santos last fought on May 13th, 2017 when he lost via a first-round TKO to Stipe Miocic. Dos Santos requested a trilogy fight with Miocic, who was defeated in the main event of last week’s UFC 226 to Daniel Cormier in the first-round.

He already has one trilogy under his belt with Cain Velasquez. dos Santos won over Velasquez in November 2011, before falling to Velasquez in December 2012 and then again in October 2013.

dos Santos has traded win-loss in his nine bouts. He has not won back-to-back bouts since he defeated Shane Carwin in June 2011, then defeating Velasquez in November 2011.

The 31-year-old Ivanov, who was making his UFC debut, fell to 16-2-1 in his MMA career. This was his first loss since he lost to Alexander Volkov at Bellator 120 via a second-round rear-naked choke submission on May 17th, 2014.

Prior to the loss to dos Santos, Ivanov was on a five-fight win streak, with four of the wins under the WSOF (World Series of Fighting) banner. In his last bout, before joining the UFC, he defeated Caio Alencar in the Professional Fighters League Fight Night on November 2nd, 2017 via a unanimous decision.
