According to TSN’s Duane Ford, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have traded former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel to the Montreal Alouettes. The deal reportedly includes five players and two draft picks.
Manziel, who signed with the Tiger-Cats this off-season, could not get any playing time with the Tiger-Cats. Instead, he’s getting traded to the Alouettes, whose head coach is Mike Sherman.
Sherman has ties to Texas A&M, as he was previously their head coach. Manziel was a redshirt freshman during the 2011 season, which was Sherman’s final campaign with the Aggies, before Kevin Sumlin was hired.
Manziel will be the Alouettes fourth quarterback this season. They have previously tried Drew Willy, Jeff Mathews, and Matt Shiltz, but still, have the worst offense in the entire league. Montreal is hoping this move will spark their offense.
The belief with this move is that the Alouettes will play Manziel. The 2ear-old Manziel will finally see the field for the first-time since he played for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL.
Montreal is 1-4 through five games this season. They are dead-last in the East Division, while the Tiger-Cats were the second-best team in the Division, as they have a 2-3 record.
The Alouettes are one of two teams – both in the Eastern Division – who have not scored 100 points through five games. The Toronto Argonauts – who are also 1-4 – have just 81 points, while Montreal has 69 points.
