Force rockets to provisional Sonoma lead

Advance Auto Parts Funny Car Pilot Courtney Force has been having a remarkable season. The points leader is the provisional No. 1 qualifier at the 31st annual Toyota NHRA Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California.

During her second qualifying pass, she went 3.91 at 326.16 mph to claim the top spot. If the number holds up after two sessions on Saturday, she’ll pick up the events Funny Car No. 1 qualifier.

If the number holds up, it’ll be her tenth No. 1 qualifiers of the season. There has only been 15 events thus far.

“I knew that with these conditions during the second pass, our team could really shine, so we pushed the car pretty hard and made our way to the top spot,” Force said. “That run felt great, so I was really excited to do that for our sponsors, and even though, we still have that pass [today], it feels great to be on top at the end of night one in Sonoma.”

Infinite Hero Foundation Funny Car pilot Jack Beckman was the provisional No. 2 qualifier. The California native went 3.929 at 324.51 mph in his second pass on Friday.
