Atco, N.J. — Permatex/Follow A Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Phil Burkhart Jr. is the No. 1 qualifier at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series on Friday at Atco Dragway. The New York native had to recapture the No. 1 qualifier after losing it earlier in the second round.
Burkhart Jr. picked up the top spot with a 5.566 at 266.16 mph pass.
He will also look to win his second straight NHRA LODRS at Atco Dragway. He defeated Aryan Rochan last year in the final round.
Frederick Tigges is the No. 2 qualifier. The Mass. native went 5.635 at 258.76 mph and improved one position after being the No. 3 position following the first session.
Dan Pomponio dropped one spot after the second session. Pomponio fell from second to third, as the Berlin, N.J. native went 5.628 at 259.66 mph.
The final three positions remained the same. Quick Draw sponsored Mathew Gill remained the No. 4 qualifier after he went 5.648 at 260.81 mph.
Gill did make a pass in the second stanza and improved, but stayed in the fourth position. He improved 0.134 seconds in the second pass, but the three drag racers in front of him were just better.
John Headley and Marie Ferriolo-Trib did not make a pass during the second qualifying session on Friday. As a result, they kept their times from the first run.
Headley is the No. 5 qualifier after the Pennsylvania native went 7.850 at 121.44 mph. Ferriolo-Trib, who used to live in Chesterfield, N.J. before moving to Denver, Colorado, is the No. 6 qualifier after she went 8.141 at 82.49 mph.
Ferriolo-Trib had problems on her first pass, as she had a backfire.
