The New England Patriots have released wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell. They released him after making him available in a trade.
He just turned 25-years-old in July. He’ll hope to find a new team after passing a physical.
Mitchell only played one season with the Patriots in 2016. He was a fourth-round draft pick by the team in the 2016 NFL Draft.
He appeared in 14 games, including six starts in 2016. He had 32 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdowns.
In two games during the 2016 playoffs, he made two starts. He had seven receptions for 75 yards.
Mitchell has been battling knee problems since last year. He also had a procedure on the knee in July.
Right now, the Patriots depth chart is now less crowded. Julian Edelman will make the roster, but will be serving a four-game suspension to begin the season.
Edelman is joined on the depth chart by Chris Hogan, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson, Eric Decker, who recently signed with the team; Kenny Britt, Paul Turner, Riley McCarron, Matthew Slater, and Devin Lucien.
Not all of these wide receivers players will make the active roster when the rosters are set to begin the season in September.
