Capco Contractors Top Fuel pilot Billy Torrence claimed his first No. 1 qualifier of his part-time racing career at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota. He has been racing in Top Fuel for 27 races.
Torrence, who is the father of fellow Capco Contractors star Steve Torrence, went 3.784 at 326.32 mph.
“It felt good, it is a big deal for that Capco team to be number one and two, that is Capco strong right there,” Torrence said. “We intend to do that same deal [Sunday] and have two Capco cars in the finals.”
The older Torrence will face Terry Totten in the first-round of eliminations. Torren went 12.286 at 72.31 mph.
Torrence, the son, is the No. 2 qualifier after he went 3.786 at 328.14 mph. He’ll face Worsham Racing’s Bill Litton in the first-round of eliminations after he went 7.177 at 78.39 mph.
Matco Tools Top Fuel pilot Antron Brown, who broke his one calendar year winless streak in Seattle with a win, is the No. 3 qualifier after he went 3.789 at 325.45 mph. Brown will face Luigi Novelli in the first-round of eliminations after he went 4.646 at 167.95 mph.
Parts Plus/Great Clips Top Fuel Dragster pilot Clay Millican is the No. 4 qualifier after he went 3.790 at 323.04 mph. He’ll face “The Greek” Chris Karamesines in the first-round of eliminations after he went 4.003 at 305.01 mph.
Scrappers Racing Top Fuel pilot Mike Salinas is the No. 5 qualifier after he went 3.797 at 322.19 mph. He’ll face Mac Tools Top Fuel pilot Doug Kalitta in the first-round of eliminations after he went 3.947 at 257.43 mph.
