Auto Club sponsored Funny Car pilot Robert Hight kept his No. 1 qualifier from Friday night at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota. On Saturday, he was able to best his provisional No. 1 qualifier time with a 3.959 at 324.67 mph pass on Saturday during the third session.
Hight picked up his second No. 1 qualifier of the season. And it is his first No. 1 qualifier of the season since April in Baytown, Texas at Royal Purple Raceway. This is also his 59th career No. 1 qualifier.
“I’m pretty jazzed,” said Hight. “This is the time of the year you better have your act together and it is starting to come together for us. We were number one here last year but didn’t get the win so we need to do one better this year and get the win.”
Hight will look to win this event for the second-time in his career. The reigning Funny Car champion already has two wins this season.
He’ll face Cruz Pedregon in the first-round of eliminations.
NAPA Auto Parts pilot Ron Capps is the No. 2 qualifier following his 3.969 at 319.67 mph pass. He’ll face Jonnie Lindberg in the first-round of eliminations.
