The Washington Nationals have traded second baseman Daniel Murphy to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. The Nationals acquired minor league infielder Andruw Monasterio.

In addition, the Nationals will receive a player to be named later or cash consideration.

Murphy was one of several Nationals players, who were claimed on waivers in recent days. First baseman Matt Adams and star outfielder Bryce Harper was the other two players.

Adams was claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals have until the end of the day on Tuesday to deal their star outfielder, who is a pending free agent.

The Nationals also have infielder Mark Reynolds, catcher Matt Wieters, and starter Gio Gonzalez on waivers.
