SMU disappears after first quarter, as No. 16 TCU rolls

The No. 16 Texas Christian University (TCU) Horned Frogs had to wait nearly two hours to get their game started with the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Mustangs. Once the game advanced to the second quarter, it was basically over for the Mustangs.

The Horned Frogs won 42-12 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

TCU has now improved to 2-0 on the season. SMU has now fallen to 0-2 on the season.

The Horned Frogs now has 50 wins over their fellow Texas native school. TCU has now won seven straight games against SMU since their 40-33 loss on October 1st, 2011.

In the seven game win streak, TCU has outscored SMU 315-121.

Horned Frogs quarterback Shawn Robinson went 15 of 28 for 146 yards. He also had one touchdown and one interception.

Darius Anderson had nine carries for 69 yards. Robinson also had eight carries for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Michael Collins also had two carries for 22 yards and a touchdown. Jaelan Austin also had a touchdown despite not recording any yardage.

KaVontae Turpin had four receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Reagor had three receptions for 45 yards. Taye Barber had two receptions for 16 yards.

SMU quarterback Ben Hicks went 18 of 38 for 111 yards.

Braeden West had 11 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown. Ke’Mon Freeman and Xavier Jones each had seven carries for 22 yards.

James Proche had six receptions for 50 yards. Myron Gailliard had four receptions for 23 yards.

SMU did not score a single point in the second half. TCU scored 22 points in the second half.

Robinson rushed for an 18-yard touchdown. He also hit Turpin for a 42-yard touchdown. Collins also scored on a 10-yard touchdown.

Hicks was sacked by Ben Banogu for a three-yard loss. On the play, Hicks fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Alex Dunham.

He then returned the ball for a 24-yard touchdown.

Following a Jamie Sackville punt, Turpin returned the punt for a 78-yard touchdown.

In addition, Sewo Olonilua rushed the ball up the middle for a 29-yard game. He fumbled the ball when he was being tackled and Austin recovered the ball and returned it for a touchdown.

SMU had a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. Kevin Robledo connected on a 49-yard field goal in the second quarter to make the score 14-12.

West rushed for a 51-yard touchdown, as the Mustangs led 7-0. At 5:16 in the first quarter, the Horned Frogs punter rushed for a 23-yard loss.

After the fumble, the ball went out of bounds in the end zone for a safety.
